Bike fitting is one of the most important things to consider before making a purchase. While a bike that fits your height, flexibility, and riding style well can excite you and motivate you to ride, one that doesn't will cause persistent muscle aching, inefficient riding, and even discourage you from riding your E-Bike.
Whether you're a first-time E-Bike buyer or someone who currently owns an E-Bike, this guide will help you better understand how to choose and adjust your E-Bike for maximum comfort and efficiency.
Measure Inseam
(5 Minutes)
Your 'inseam' represents the distance between where your body sits on the bike saddle and the ground. It is also known as the 'inside leg length' and should be measured to help you determine a maximum frame height that allows you to stand over and ride a bike safely and comfortably.
What you'll need:
- Medium-width hardcover book
- Tape measure
- A pencil
- A wall or flat surface to stand against (That you would not mind making a small mark on)
- Someone to help you with this process.
- Stand with your back against the wall. Wearing regular shoes, stand with your feet spread 7 inches apart. This is the approximate distance your feet will be when straddling a bike with your feet on planted on the ground (also known as standover height).
- Straddle the book, spine up, as if you were sitting on a saddle. Place the book against the wall and using a pencil, mark where the spine of the book meets the wall.
- Measure from the mark to the floor. Ask your assistant to help you measure from the floor to the top of the book spine while you hold the book in place. If you do not have an assistant, hold the book in place, turn around, and measure from the ground to the top of the book spine.
- Repeat the process to ensure your measurements are correct.
Once you've completed this, use the real inseam measurement to see which bike in the chart below would fit you best.

Adjust E-Bike
(4 Minutes)
Using your inseam measurements, you can begin adjusting your seatpost to best suit your height.
- Prepare your seatpost for adjustment by loosening the quick-release or bolt-on clamp (only available on the X-Trail Lite and Urban Models)
- Be careful not to raise the post beyond the "minimum insertion mark" etched into its side.
- Note: The maximum and minimum seatpost heights are measured from the top of the seat to the top of the pedal when it is at the bottom of the pedal stroke.
- Using your inseam measurement, adjust your seatpost so that you have a slight bend in the leg, reaching about 80-90 percent of full leg extension when pedaling the bike.
The table below shows the maximum seatpost lengths for all our models:
